Nyko reveals a new wireless Nunchuck for the Nintendo Wii, losing the cumbersome wired trappings and going sleek and cord free.

Can’t stand that annoying little strap connecting the nunchuck to your wireless Nintendo Wii controller like a plastic umbilical cord? Tired of your boxing stylings getting tripped up by a bothersome nunchuck tether? Well, apparently you aren’t alone, because Nyko revealed today a new Wirelss Wii Nunchuck.

According to IGN, Nyko will be giving its Wireless Nunchuck for the Wii its premier at CES next month. Using 2.4-GHz wireless, the Nunchuck will communicate with the Wiimote via a little wireless receiver that plugs into the Nunchuck’s usual jack on the Wiimote.

Checking out the pic below, you will probably notice that Nyko’s Nunchuck looks pretty much exactly the same as Nintendo’s original Nunchuck, because Nyko is “remaining true to Nintendo’s general layout and button locations.” Besides the absence of connection wire, the Nyko version will also sport additional power buttons.

No news on pricing or release dates yet (that’s being held for CES), but at least there's a pretty picture:

Looks really nice. I may look into getting one be the third nunchuck I have and go with my three remotes, though only if it's $20 like the normal nuchucks are priced at.

Pretty nifty!

Though, the wire isn’t that much of a burden (to me anyway). I wonder what price Nyko will shoot for…

Yeah, whenever I've played the Wii I've never seen the wire as much of an issue. The two controls are usually close together anyway.

It's an issue more for games that use motion controls extensively. Having played quite a few of them, I'm glad to see this is actually coming out.

Eh, I am no fan of wires but I actually prefer putting on only one wrist strap.

I'll wait to see if it actually works...I've had bad experiences with third party accessories. If it does work as advertised I might pick it up though for stuff like Warioware.

I really trust Nyko with Wii accessories. I have their Battery Charger, Wireless Sensor Bar, and plan on getting their new gun shell. The wireless Nunchuk seems kinda pointless, but if it's reasonably priced, I might get it. It should work well with Bungie Buddies on WarioWare.

Hell it seems more like a Nunchuck when it's attached.

You can swing it around.

We had a really good contact at NYKO, they've really stepped their game up over the past few years. You should probably give them a try. They're a lot better than a lot of other accessory manufacturers.

As for this actual device. I could see this being useful in the event of games that require a lot of movement. Like, imagine if a wireless nunchuck became the norm. They could make games that have dual wielding swords. Can you imagine how sick that would be waving around the two controllers taking suckers out!? That would be satisfying (so long as it was done right).

Good point. I wonder how ninjas would feel if somebody invented real wireless Nunchucks? I'm not sure how those would work though.  :P
