Coming months after its console brethren, 50 Cent: Bulletproof finally makes its way to the PSP in a new style, isometric hack-and-slash. The gangster style distinguishes it from similar games, but it doesn't help make the game memorable. From bland, generic character models to unimpressive gameplay, Bulletproof really needs a lot of work to end up as a halfway decent finished product.
The gameplay of Bulletproof merely consists of moving further along the level aimlessly until enemies appear on the screen. Changing weapons can be a chore with the weapon wheel that requires the tiny nub to navigate. Defeating enemies is not rewarding at all, though the added feature of kicking the dead bodies to gain money and items is nice. The use of cutscene-inducing special moves is probably the nicest feature, though this cannot save the game.
From the models to the environments, nothing really stands out in Bulletproof. Navigating the levels results in just running around until a dead end is reached and then trying another route. The map icon doesn't help matters as it almost seems to be zoomed in too much. The addition of cues to the map icon would make navigating the dark, dreary levels less of a chore.
While an extended development time should mean a better game, it's hard to imagine what went wrong to create this turd. The few bright spots in the gameplay are ruined by its repetitive nature and the game just comes off as boring. If the developers can work hard enough to pull a good game out of their ass, it will be a miracle. Right now, do not give Bulletproof the time of day unless things change.
