Iron Man Preview
April 1,2008 - As far as comic book films this summer, it looks as though Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight will be taking the cake. However, Jon Favreau’s Iron Man is demanding to be heard and is shaping up to be a formidable entry into a genre filled with crap. It has at least one thing The Dark Knight doesn’t have: a video game adaptation. Whether that is a good or a bad thing remains to be seen.
Like them all, Iron Man is based around the movie with several additional story lines weaved into the game. We are not sure what the side missions will be exactly, but we’ll expect them to at least semi-interesting. On the other hand, we can confirm that Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard will be lending their voices to the game characters. So even if it’s a mind-numbing game, you’ll at least hear the real people from the movie. How exciting.
The locales are sure to be expansive given Iron Man’s flying abilities. From what we’ve seen, you’ll have plenty of room to fly around in the desert but we have yet to see how much Los Angeles will be featured. Will it act as a hub of sorts? We shall see.
The major enemies in the game are A.I.M. (Advanced Ideas Mechanics), Iron Monger and Titanium Man. Everything else you’ll be facing in the game is coming across very generic. Planes, choppers, tanks; you’ve seen it all before. You’ll be packing different Iron Man features, from repulsor rays to rockets.
If you don’t exactly feel like shooting everything in sight, you’ll be able to take enemies head on with a small variety of attacks. With the press of a button when directly next to an enemy, you can rip them in half, use them as weapons, and so on. In the air, you’ll have the option to dodge missiles, but if you’re feeling more bad ass than that, you can catch missiles mid-air and throw them back towards your enemies. In general, different powers will be allocated at your discretion. So, if you want more of a particular attack, you can focus energy to doing that particular thing.
Your Iron Man suit will also be customizable. To what extent, we’re not sure, but we do know that you’ll see a variety of suits within the game. You’ll have the original clunky suit, the faster Mark II and the standard suit, as well as a blue-plated stealth suit.
So will gamers be getting a quality game this May? We wouldn’t put money on it, but it looks like it may be worth renting at the very least. Pay attention to the GameHUB for any more videos to pop up and expect a review when the game releases on every major platform.
