Perhaps one of the most revered, and popular games in the history of the business is being paid the respects it deserves. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a remake of 1998's Playstation classic, Metal Gear Solid. The best part is the group who is working on the game; Metal Gear Solid's creator, Hideo Kojima, Nintendo's all-star developer, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Nintendo's recent 2nd party claim to success, Silicon Knights. If this doesn't sound impressive, I don't know what will. This is quite possibly the best lineup of developers at one time for any game ever. If you're a fan of Metal Gear Solid, get ready, Solid Snake is back.
So far, what's been available to the public for The Twin Snakes is beyond impressive. The first trailers at E3 and the Tokyo Game Show earlier last year were very cool, and showed off how the game was going to be approached. The Twin Snakes has a very cinematic feel to it, which makes sense because it's cutscenes are being headed by one of the most respected Japanese directors; Ryuhei Kitamura. Obviously, this means that the game will have a very incredible cinematic drive to it. It wasn't until just this month, January, that Konami released the third trailer at the Konami Gamer's Day Expo. Besides being one of the longest trailers for a game that has been seen in a very long time, it's also one of the best.
The trailer features a host of spoilers that cover all of the games main boss battles. If you've played the original Metal Gear Solid the trailers spoilers aren't spoiling whatsoever, rather they just remind you of what a great game Metal Gear Solid was, and how incredible The Twin Snakes will be.
Easily the most enchanting and mysterious character in Metal Gear Solid was the Cyborg Ninja. If any of you remember him, forget all you know, because this incarnation of the character is the best yet. The extraordinary third trailer features some incredible clips of the cutscenes featuring the Cyborg Ninja, including his fight against Snake, and the fight against Metal Gear Rex.
Throughout the majority of the trailer it follows Solid Snake, the badder than bad main character in the game. It shows his encounters with Revolver Ocelot, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, and Liquid Snake. It's unbelievable how over-the-top these cutscenes are. They feature some of the most impressive direction ever seen in a game's story to this very day, on any system. The use of bullet-time and the story-driven approach to the cinematics is going to up the ante on all action games for time to come.
From what we all know about The Twin Snakes, it will be using an upgraded version of the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The graphics in The Twin Snakes don't look much better than Sons of Liberty, if at all. They aren't all that impressive, especially in comparison to other stealth-action games that are out, or coming out at the time. Actually, for the Gamecube, it's really nothing to get all that excited over. If you're looking for a graphical showpiece for the Gamecube, you might want to look elsewhere. But, for those of you who can get over the graphics - which really aren't that bad at all - should keep on listening.
