Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action Impressions
October 31,2007 - For game/movie lovers, there isn’t plenty to be happy with in terms of crossovers. Many movies are made into bad games, and some games are being turned into terrible movies. So, how would you like a playful alternative? Scene It: Lights, Camera, Action! has you covered this holiday season. Already a well established in-home board/DVD game, it is making its transition to the Xbox 360 console, and we got some hands-on time with the recently released demo.

The demo gives you access to several of the game types within Scene It. There is no particular order, as the sections you visit are randomized upon going back into playing. Prior to playing, you settle into your color-designated team and choose your playing icon (a slate, reel, etc.). Up to four players can participate in the demo with standard controllers, but Big Button Controllers will be shipping with the game to make buzzing easier. For the demo, you merely press a D-pad direction to buzz in when necessary.

You will be guided around by the head of Scene It Studios. New challenges for the game in general are included, those being Child’s Play and Quotables. In Child’s Play, you must guess what movie is being depicted in a crayon version of a scene. It’s actually difficult at times because they tend to be rather vague until late into the drawing. As the drawing shows more, you miss out on precious points. Movie buffs should have no problem with Quotables, which takes half of a well known quote from a movie and you must fill in the blanks.

Scoring is relatively simple. You accumulate points in each section and, obviously, will be used to compete against the other teams. The maximum amount you can earn from a single question varies. If you answer every question in a section correctly, you will earn points at the end of the game. The more perfect rounds, the bigger the bonus.

Throughout the game, the studio head will comment on your performances but you will never see him. You do, however, see the Scene It studios. Clearly, the graphics aren’t a key issue here, so the whole environment seems like an old version of The Sims. Despite that, movie stills are clear and clips are presented in high definition.

With only a handful of sections, there’s not much reason to go back into the demo. The questions will be constantly repeated, so you will no doubt memorize them. Still, it should be fun for a few times if you play with your friends or family. Considering the amount of questions the full game is boasting to have, it should be just as fun as its board/DVD game counterpart. Look for Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action on store shelves November 6th.
