Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Preview
May 9,2008 - Many were first introduced to Strong Bad with Guitar Hero II’s bonus track “Trogdor”, but the shirtless, boxing glove-equipped, mask-wearing character has had a devoted following since his debut on HomestarRunner.com in 2000. Over the years, the site, started by Mike and Matt Chapman, has accumulated so many videos, jokes, characters and games that one would be hard-pressed to name them all. The creator’s next foray, aided by developer/publisher Telltale Games of Sam and Max fame, is into the console world with Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People.

To be released episodically over WiiWare and digital distribution platforms, Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, or SBCG4AP, is best described as an adventure game. Each of the five episodes will have players exploring the Homestar Runner universe, interacting with many of the jokes and characters they’ve come to know and love through the years. Newbies to the series shouldn’t feel ostracized though, as the characters are easy to get to know, and the jokes are appealing to a general audience.

As the title of the game implies, Strong Bad will be the featured character of each episode. With no real plotline to follow, players will be left to their own devices to explore the world. Most of the gameplay will be delivered in the classic point-and-click style of adventure games. Locations around the screen will be context-sensitive, so Strong Bad may walk to the spot you clicked, make a witty remark about the object selected, or perform some other action.

While all the graphics on the retro games on the website as well as the videos are in 2D, Videlectrix is rendering everything in 3D for SBCG4AP. The in-game map is actually customizable, allowing players to literally move locations around for their convenience. As puzzles are solved, new map locations will open up for further exploration. Eventually players will unlock mini-games, or “time-wasters”, to keep themselves playing just a bit longer.

More game details are still scant despite the fact that the first episode will be releasing this June. The best way to prepare for it would actually be to visit the Homestar Runner website, browse around, play some games, and watch some videos to see if SBCG4AP will appeal to you.
